What causes a toothache?

 

Let us list some reasons which trigger a toothache.

Have you ever experienced a toothache?  Well, I really hope not!  But just in case for those who have, you may want to know the causes that render the dreaded ache.

Dental pain creeps up due to a number of reasons:

1.  The primary cause being tooth decay

2.  Dental abscess

3.  Gum disease

4.  Trauma of tooth or teeth due repetitive grinding  (bruxism) or physical injury

5.  Damaged fillings

6.  Tooth fracture

7.  Impacted wisdom tooth

8.  Eruption of teeth in children

9.  Sometimes the toothache might just be referred pain.  Such as sinus congestion, pain in the jaw joint (temporomandibular joint) and yet many more reasons.

As you can see, there are many causes of dental pain.  What I can advise you is maintain proper oral hygiene and visit the dentist at least every six months.  Your dentist will advise and educate you.  So let's not wait for the ache to fetch us unguarded!
